 Some interesting information to wet your appetite.

  • Oasis 88 Polymer is being imported into South Africa as a water treatment product at present.
  • First developed 20 years ago to remove calcium deposits from boilers in the mining industry and is still used today.
  • 15 years ago the Israelis started testing the polymer in agriculture conducting extensive trials and reformulated it for agricultural use.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer is presently being registered as an agricultural product in SA.
  • Extensive trials are underway throughout SA at present by commercial and private farmers on Sugar, Macs, Citrus, Wheat, Avos, Vegetables, Pastures, Grapes and many more.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer has been tested in SA for the last 8 years and we are getting very good results at an application rate of 4 l/ha, depending on the crop and the soils.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer is made by breaking down carbon chains into monomers and rebuilding them into polymer chains.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer is an organic non-toxic polymer which is PH neutral.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer has has a 3 to 4 month residual effect in the soil depending on weather conditions.  Being an organic compound it is also eaten by bacteria in the soil.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer works by weakening the bonds between negatively charged clay colloids and the positively charged cations such as your essential macronutrients Nitrogen, Phosphorous, Potassium, Sulphur, Calcium, Magnesium, Silicon and your essential micronutrients Chlorine, Iron, Boron, Manganese, Zinc, Copper and Molybdenum therefore releasing more of these elements into the soil solution and making them available to the plants.  Normally plants have to use energy to produce a root exudate which weakens the bonds between the cations and clay colloids therefore allowing the plant to take up the required elements.
  • By applying the Oasis 88 Polymer the plant no longer has to do this extra work as the elements/plant nutrients are now more freely available to the plants.  The plants can now take up what they need, expending less energy to do so.
  • Less energy used by the plants and more freely available elements/plant nutrients equals increased plant growth, stronger root systems which leads to improved soil structure and microbial activity, and healthier plants (Stronger disease resistance) culminating in greater production and higher yields.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer increases the water infiltration rate into the soil therefore less runoff.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer is compatible with all herbicides therefore no extra application costs, it also acts as a wetting agent (cost saving here too) and it cleans your spray application equipment from accumulated deposits at the same time.
  • Our best results from our trials have been combined with good, solid, sensible farming practices and scientifically formulated, blended fertilizer applications.

    We are working towards providing you with a scientifically formulated, blended fertilizer, custom blended for a specific field in the very near future.  We will be able to blend all your macro and micro nutrients as required per field and this very specific fertilizer blend will be bagged and labelled with your farm name and field number.
  • Oasis 88 Polymer is not a one stop miracle fix but it is giving very encouraging results if used correctly.  (Applying more than the recommended rate does not produce better results and is not recommended.)

Application Rates

  • Application rates higher than the rates recommended by us, should not be used.
  • Sugarcane - 4l/ha after harvesting.
  • Macadamia Nuts - Young trees : 4l/ha every 3 months (4 x per year)
                                   - Fruit bearing trees : 4l/ha after harvesting and 4l/ha just before                                    flowering (2 x per year)
  • Annual Crops - 4l/ha every at planting.

Questions from Farmers & Answers

  1. What is the recommended application rate for short term crops such as Sugarcane, Maize, Wheat, Vegetables, Pasture, etc. ?
    4 litres per hectare after harvesting sugarcane or after planting other crops, once per year.
  2. What is the recommended application rate for trees such as Macs, Avos, Forestry, etc. ?
    4 litres per hectare 4 times per year (Every three months)
  3. How is the Oasis 88 Polymer delivered to my farm?
    It is a liquid and is delivered in 21 litre plastic drums.
  4. What is the cost of a 21 litre drum?
    R 3,150.00 plus VAT.  or R 150.00 per litre plus VAT.
  5. Can I mix Oasis 88 Polymer with my other herbicides to reduce applications costs?
    YES you may.  Oasis 88 Polymer is compatible with all herbicides and acts as a wetting agent too..
  6. Does Oasis 88 Polymer cause soil mining?
    So far through our extensive trials using soil sampling as one of our tools we have had no indication of soil mining.
  7. Does Oasis 88 Polymer have a residual effect in the soil?
    Yes it has a 3 to 4 month residual effect as it is eaten by soil bacteria.
  8. Why have I not heard of Oasis 88 Polymer before?
    Oasis 88 Polymer, although it has been tested in agriculture over the last 8 years in SA, is a very new and exciting agricultural product.
  9. Are there any farmers in SA who are using Oasis 88 Polymer every year on their whole farm?
    Yes there are! :-)
  10. Where can I find scientific data on Oasis 88 Polymer?
    Due to this product being so new to SA and the fact that many active trials are still in progress there is no scientific data but it’s coming.  Our advice is don’t be left behind and start your own trial today with the help of our Soil Specialists.
  11. Who are doing trials with the Oasis 88 Polymer?
    S.A.S.R.I. and the SA Citrus Board.
  12. Does Oasis 88 Polymer work on acid soils PH 3.6 - 4.2? (KZN North Coast)
    Yes it does.  With acidic soils it is common practice to apply lime (CaCO₃) or dolomitic lime which also has Magnesium.  By applying CaCO₃ it reacts with Hydrogen in the soil shedding an oxygen atom to produce H₂O and CO₂ and releasing the Calcium which is now available to the plants.  By removing the Hydrogen ions in the soil solution, we increase the PH level, which in turn makes some of the macro and micro nutrients more available to the plants, as can be seen on tables showing the effect of PH on plant nutrient availability.  By using Oasis 88 in conjunction with lime, it helps to make even more macro and micro nutrients available to the plants by weakening the bonds between the anions and cations in the soil.  This process happens irrespective of the PH level in the soil.

Some Interesting Figures I have managed to collect so far.

Peppadews  from 20 tons/ha increased to 30 tons/ha using Polymer.
Macs from 3.5 tons/ha increased to 9.4 tons/ha on some orchards.
Germination rate is quicker, Germination percentage is higher and Growth after germinations is faster and stronger.
